Psycholudic Shuffleboard
A research instrument disguised as a card table: physical and virtual versions of a game board for the card game Schnapsen, built to record play for analysis.

The physical board is oak, with NFC integrated under the play area — every card movement is logged, and buttons let players record game wins. The resulting data makes it possible to analyse gameplay patterns and to experiment with role switching within the game.
The virtual version transmits game data over the network with minimal delay, built for experiments where gameplay and brain activity are recorded simultaneously — it became the backbone of the EEG hyperscanning sessions.
Built for The Psycholudic Approach (FWF AR787) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
The EEG sessions that grew out of this board are written up in An EEG hyperscanning setup to investigate collaboration in games (DiGRA 2025).
