Psycholudic Shuffle × EEG Hyperscanning
501 – Psycholudic Shuffle is a physical game for three players who switch roles during play. In an autumn 2024 workshop we combined it with real-time brain imaging: participants played sessions of roughly thirty minutes wearing EEG caps, with three EEGs recording simultaneously — hyperscanning.

The Psycholudic Approach
In-game actions and events were synchronized with the EEG data, giving a combined view of how players’ brains respond and interact during play. The interfaces were designed to minimize interference from input methods like mouse or keyboard, so people could play naturally while being measured.

The three-player setup later became the “501 EEG Card Game”. In December 2025 OE1 recorded a session with the Jet Lag All Stars in the caps. In May 2026 the group presented a poster at the XXIX Congress of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics, Phylogenetisches Museum Jena: Using Artistic Psycholudic Game Design to investigate cooperation in a three-person EEG hyperscanning study (Theresa Demmer, Margarete Jahrmann, Georg Luif, Matthew Pelowski, Stefan Glasauer).
