Parasitic Power: When Your Phone Charges your artwork

48-hour prototype exploring wireless power transfer

What if the device you’re charging could power something else? This prototype uses your phone as a power source for interactive hardware.

A Qi wireless charging receiver connects to an ESP32 microcontroller. Place your phone down—it charges while simultanously powering the ESP32 and LEDs underneath. No batteries, no external power needed. The laser-cut case houses everything and shows charging status through LEDs. Could even charge a battery if you wanted.

Why this is useful!

Parasitic power removes battery maintenence from installations. Users bring their own power (their phones) while interacting. The longer they charge, the more they engage. The phone becomes both beneficiary and contributor.
